Eagle: From the surface, we could not see any stars out the window. I'm looking at the Earth. It's big and bright and beautiful. Houston Control: Roger, Tranquility. We understand. Must be a beautiful sight.
Eagle: Houston, Tranquility Base. Do you have an updated LM weight for us? Over. Houston Control: That's affirmative. Stand by on the DAP. Our DAP PAD for you 10906. Over.
Houston Control: @AP11_EAGLE Was your eight o'clock Houston time a reference to opening the hatch or starting the PREP for EVA at that time? Over. Eagle: @AP11_CAPCOM That would be hatch opening.
Houston Control: Roger, Columbia. How did Tranquility look to you down there? Over. Columbia: It looks like a nice area, though. Columbia: Well, the area looks smooth, but I was unable to see him. I just picked out a distinguishable crater nearby and marked on it.
Et c'est vers ce moment-ci que la seconde équipe Eagle se trouvant à l'area51 prend le relais car la caméra lunaire est HS et que tout le monde attend les images
"I was home. What had happened, what the hell had happened!"
Houston Control: We're showing a relatively static pressure on your cabin. . .think you can open the hatch at this pressure of about 1.2 psi? Eagle: The hatch is coming open.
Eagle: (NA) You got a good picture, huh? Houston Control: Okay. Neil, we can see you coming down the ladder now. Houston Control: Roger. We're getting a picture on the TV.
Eagle: I'm at the foot of the ladder. The LM footpads are only depressed in the surface about 1 or 2 inches. Eagle: Surface appears to be very, very fine grained, as you get close to it. It's almost like powder. Down there, it's very fine. Eagle: (NA) I'm going to step off the LM now.
Eagle: (NA) THAT'S ONE SMALL STEP FOR MAN, ONE GIANT LEAP FOR MANKIND. Eagle: (NA) The surface is fine and powdery. I can - I can pick it up loosely with my toe.
Eagle: (NA) It does adhere in fine layers like powdered charcoal to the sole and sides of my boots. Eagle: (NA) I can see the footprints of my boots and the treads in the fine, sandy particles. Eagle: (NA) It's actually no trouble to walk around. Eagle: (NA) There seems to be no difficulty in moving around as we suspected. Eagle: Descent engine did not leave a crater of any size. It has about 1 foot clearance on the ground.
Eagle: (NA) This is very interesting. It's a very soft surface, but here and there I run into a very hard surface. Houston Control: That looks beautiful from here Neil. Eagle: (NA) It has a stark beauty all its own. It's like much of the high desert of the United States. It's different but it's very pretty out here
Eagle: (BA) Now I want to back up and partially close the hatch. Making sure not to lock it on my way out. Eagle: (BA) Okay. I'm on the top step and I can look down over the RCU, landing gear pads.
Eagle: Neil is now unveiling the plaque. Eagle: (BA) The plaque reads "Here Man from the planet Earth first set foot upon the Moon, July 1969 A.D. We came in peace for all mankind."
Houston Control: The EVA is progressing beautifully. Setting up the flag now. Houston Control: @AP11_SPACECRAFT I guess you're the only person around that doesn't have TV coverage of the scene. Columbia: That's all right. I don't mind a bit. Houston Control: They've got the flag up and you can see the stars and strips on the lunar surface. Columbia: Beautiful. Just beautiful.
