He told me that "in the fall, having the latest WGA will become mandatory and if its not installed, Windows will give a 30 day warning and when the 30 days is up and WGA isn't installed, Windows will stop working, so you might as well install WGA now."
I'm wondering if Microsoft has the right to disable Windows functionality or the OS as a whole (tantamount to revoking my legitimate Windows license) if I do not install every piece of software that they send it updates.
I sent a note to Microsoft asking for an official confirmation or, better yet, a denial. Instead, I got this terse response from a Microsoft spokesperson:
As we have mentioned previously, as the WGA Notifications program expands in the future, customers may be required to participate.
Microsoft is gathering feedback in select markets to learn how it can best meet its customers' needs and will keep customers informed of any changes to the program.
That’s it. That’s the entire response.

Advertising Age a écrit:YouTube Fastest Growing Website
Traffic Grew Threefold Since January
By Gavin O'Malley
Published: July 21, 2006
NEW YORK (AdAge.com) -- The popularity of YouTube is growing at an astronomical rate, as web traffic to the video-sharing site grew 75% just in the week ending July 16, from 7.3 million to 12.8 million unique visitors, according to Nielsen/NetRatings. Traffic to the site has grown nearly threefold -- 297% -- since January, making it the fastest-growing site online.
Page views soar
The number of web pages viewed on the site has grown at an even faster pace, increasing 515%, from 11.8 million in January to 72.4 million in June, Nielsen finds. The average time spent at the site has increased 64% during the same period, from just more than 17 minutes to nearly 28 minutes.
In about a year and a half, founders Chad Hurley and Steve Chen have watched YouTube go from a video-sharing site for their friends to the most-visited video service online, attracting more than 20 million U.S. users in May -- compared with 11.1 million for Microsoft's MSN Video. The two have become the envy of every media company from New York to Los Angeles, as evinced by Mr. Hurley's belle-of-the-ball status at last month's elite Allen & Co. media summit in Sun Valley, Idaho.
Still building an ad model
Still in the process of building its advertising model and sales team, YouTube is experimenting with a number of sponsor partnerships. Last month, NBC struck a deal with YouTube to promote its fall TV lineup just months after ordering the site to take down copyrighted video. Under the terms of the agreement, NBC is creating an official NBC Channel on YouTube to house its fall preview with exclusive clips to promote shows such as "The Office." And earlier this month, Walt Disney tapped YouTube to promote "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest," with rich-media banner ads.
Men are 20% more likely to visit YouTube than women, with unique audience composition indexes of 113 and 88, respectively, according to Nielsen/NetRatings. Visitors between 12 to 17 years old index the highest among the various age groups, at 142. They are nearly 1.5 times more likely than the average web user to go to YouTube.

Moi qui croyait à simplement une rumeur de bourse...
Apple (dont la plupart des machines sont basés sur des cartes ATI) va être bien ennuyé vis à vis de son contrat Intel d'aller acheter des cartes graphiques chez AMD...

Bit-Tech a écrit:Intel pulls ATI chipset license
Posted 15:07 - 24 July 2006 - by Tim Smalley
Intel has pulled ATI's chipset license - this doesn't come as much of a surprise, given the earlier news.
There is a lot of news surrounding ATI at the moment, especially with the AMD buy out confirmed earlier today.
Intel has pulled ATI's chipset license, meaning that there will be no more ATI (or rather, AMD) chipsets for Intel processors after the end of the year.
There will still be time for one more though, namely the upcoming RD600 chipset, which doesn't look like it will be cancelled, despite the earlier news. However, it is unclear whether the RD600 project will see the light of day though.
Intel has pushed the fact that its 975X chipset supports CrossFire quite heavily, especially with the Core 2 Duo launch. I think it is a fairly safe bet to say that Intel will contine to support CrossFire on its high end chipsets for the foreseeable future.
After all, Intel is keen to sell its own products, especially now it has the fastest chip on the market. Also, I don't believe that AMD would choose to lock CrossFire out on Intel's chipsets either, because it just wouldn't make financial sense - AMD/ATI will still profit from the video cards sold for use with Intel products.
Intel has already dropped support for CrossFire on its 965-series chipsets and it is unclear whether Intel will continue to design chipsets that support multi-GPU technologies. The company has been hinting at moving GPU tasks back onto the CPU for a few months now.
We'll bring you more as soon as we get it...
