ZANARDI SHINES IN NEW-YORK MARATHON
On his first participation in the famous road race, the Italian driver completed the 42.2 km course from Staten Island to Manhattan"s Central Park in 1 hour 33 minutes and 17 seconds.
Zanardi crossed the finish line fourth in the Handcycle Category that was won by Alejandro Albor form California who clocked a time of 1:17:48.
"I am extemely happy. I expected to achieve a good result, but actually not so good!" Zanardi admitted. "I trained a lot during the last month, and I knew I could cover the distance in little more than 90 minutes, but everybody kept on saying that it would have taken at least ten more minutes in New York. Finally I proved that I could do it and this will remain one of the most amazing experiences in my life."
Zanardi's split times during the race were: 5k/10:06, 10k/20:11, 20k/41:46, half marathon/ 44:23, 30k/1:05.31, 40k/1:28.36.
The day before the race, Zanardi was the guest star in the traditional Pasta Party organised by Barilla in Central Park, where some fifty-thousand dishes of pasta were served to the runners entered in the race.
